Phillip Phillips was born on 20th September 1990 in Leesburg. He is an American singer and songwriter. The winner of the 11th season of Fox’s American Idol, Phillip is a soulful vocalist with a throaty style and a bent toward music acoustic singer/songwriter material with jam oriented rock.
He began studying music in his teens. He eventually formed a group with his brother-in-law Benjamin Neil and began performing locally. During this time, he won first place in the local singing competition Albany Star in 2010. While attending school in Albany Technical institution Phillips auditioned for American Idol performing both Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” on which he accompanied himself on guitar. Phillip is best known for the winner of American Idol Season 11 in 2012.
Phillips went from competing thousands to hundreds and then to just 25 in the semi final. He had a slight health issue after the Top 13 performance night, visiting a doctor for his kidney problem. Apparently all his family has had a history of illness. A surgical procedure was done to put a stent in his kidney. He fought through a tight schedule on “Idol”, missed some non-staged events and eventually beat Jessica Sanchez in the final on 23rd May, 2012.
His coronation song “Home” was released after his performance. He became the first “Idol” winner to have his coronation single on the Top 10 of the Hot 100 chart in four years.
Phillips had a major surgery to remove his kidney stones on June 6th 2012. He was prepared to go on the annual “Idol” tour the next month and for the release of his debut album. Speaking of his first effort, Phillips said, “kind of like jazz and rock, that sort of stuff. I am really excited to get it out there- it’s going to be cool”. Once the surgery was done, Phillips went on tour with the American Idol Live Tour that summer ad set about recording his debut album. Entitled “The world from the side of the moon”, the album appeared in November 2012.
“Gone, Gone, Gone” from the album was released as a single on February 11, 2013. This song was performed live by Phillips on March 14th edition of American Idol.
Phillips is a practicing Christian. He started playing music at the age of 14 and made his name in a very early age. Today he is known for his sweet melodious voice and youngsters have made him an iconic symbol. He is a heartthrob now a day, especially for the girls.
