Before you decide over which Maroon 5 songs would be your top pick, why not spend some time to know the band more? In 1994, talented musicians Adam Levine, Mickey Madden, Jesse Carmichael, and Ryan Dusick formed a band called Kara’s Flowers. The five members were all high school students who possessed passion for rock music. Despite their young age, the group was able to release an album in 1997, ‘The Fourth World’ through Reprise Records. To their disappointment, the CD was a commercial failure. Thus, the band split and its members decided to instead pursue college.
But it must be their calling. The four regrouped and formed a new band in 2001. After adding James Valentine to their lineup, they got into a new direction and adopted the name Maroon 5. After signing a record deal with Octone Records, the group recorded its first album ‘Songs about Jane’ in 2002. The carrier single ‘Harder to Breathe’ enjoyed warm reception but the succeeding singles ‘She Will be Loved’ and ‘This Love’ became more phenomenal.
The band and its debut album enjoyed popularity in the years that came. In 2005, Maroon 5 won its first Grammy’s—Best New Artist. In the next 5 years that followed, the band extensively toured the world to further promote ‘Songs about Jane.’ Dusick, the drummer, left the group. He was replaced by former drummer of B-52, Matt Flynn.
In 2007, it released its second CD ‘It Won’t Be Soon Before Long.’ The carrier single ‘Makes Me Wonder’ was the first of Maroon 5 songs to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. In September 2010, their third album ‘Hands All Over’ was released. It peaked at No. 2 on Billboard 200. The single ‘Misery’ drew attention with its unique beat and interesting music video. ‘Moves Like Jagger’ emerged as the band’s second track to reach the No. 1 spot of Billboard 100.
The fourth album ‘Overexposed’ was released in June 2012. It was another trend-setting project for the band. The first two tracks ‘One More Night’ and ‘Payphone’ were international smash hits. Music critics warmly received the album and praised Maroon 5 for reinventing itself and adopting a new style. The release of the new album came along with the departure of another original member, Carmichael, who said he wanted to focus on spiritual healing and his studies. He was replaced by Sam Farrar, bassist of Phantom Planet.
The band released its third single from the CD ‘Daylight’ through launching another project, ‘The Daylight Project.’ It encouraged their fans to shoot their own segments which might possibly be included in the song’s music video. At the height of the album’s promotion, Levine is more identified as a resident judge for the hit TV show ‘The Voice.’
What are the latest Maroon 5 songs in the offing? The band has started working on its fifth studio album. In October 2012, former band member Carmichael announced that he will return to the group after the completion of the Overexposed World Tour. He will be part of the upcoming CD. There is no scheduled release for that album yet but the growing flock of the band’s fans is starting to look forward to it.
