Kesha featuring 3OH!3 - Blah Blah Blah

Everyone would certainly agree. Kesha songs are anything but ordinary. In a landscape where uniqueness is a requirement, she is one of the modern music artists who never fail to draw attention. She is known for her talky rapping technique, excessive auto-tuning, and yodelling. Her fashion sense is also eccentric. But don’t have reservations about her vocal talent. She can actually sing. It’s just that she prefers to sing tracks that will make everyone dance.

The American rapper and singer-songwriter was born on March 1, 1987 in Los Angeles, California. She was raised by her single mom, Patricia Rose ‘Pebe’ Sebert, who is also a singer-songwriter. Kesha and Lagan, her older brother, recall how their family relied on food stamps and welfare payments to survive. In 1991, the three moved to Nashville, Tennessee after Pebe secured a new publishing agreement for her songs. Shortly after that relocation, Pebe got pregnant again with Louis, Ke$ha’s younger brother.

It became normal for Pebe to bring along her three kids to recording studios. She soon discovered that her daughter has a unique vocal talent. Pebe personally taught Ke$ha (during the latter’s high school days) how to write songs. When Ke$ha was 17 years old, she dropped school and returned to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Max Martin and Dr. Luke were impressed by one of her demos.

A year later, she signed a record deal with Kemosabe Entertainment, which is owned by Dr, Luke. After providing background vocals to ‘Nothing in This World’ by Paris Hilton, Ke$ha felt that Dr. Luke was too preoccupied with many other things. That is why she signed a management contract with DAS Communications in 2006. After appearing in the music video of Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed a Girl’ and backing up Britney Spears’ ‘Lace and Leather,’ she decided to end her contract with DAS and return to Dr. Luke’s firm. Kesha songs were still nowhere in sight then.

In 2009, she finally got a significant exposure when she appeared on Flo Rida’s ‘Right Round,’ a collaboration that happened by accident. She opted not to get any credit for that appearance and even refused to collect any talent fee for her part. Finally, Dr. Luke helped her land a record deal with RCA Records in 2009. Ke$ha released her maiden album ‘Animal,’ which amazingly debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200 upon its January 2010 release. ‘Tik Tok,’ the carrier single was a phenomenon and broke records after selling more than 610,000 digital downloads in its first week. Other singles were also warmly received, including ‘Blah Blah Blah,’ and ‘Your Love is My Drug.’ The same year, the album was re-released along with a companion EP ‘Cannibal.’

In November 2012, her second CD ‘Warrior’ was launched. Its first single ‘Die Young’ was another smash hit that climbed music charts around the world. At the same time, she released her illustrated autobiography, which she called ‘My Crazy Beautiful Life.’ Fans of all Kesha songs should also look forward to her own TV show/documentary ‘Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life,’ which will start airing on MTV on April 2013.
