Kendrick Lamar – Swimming Pools (Drank) Review
Some people find being drunk as fun. This is reflected in the hit song ‘Swimming Pools (Drank)’ by Kendrick Lamar. The song is the second single released from the hip hop artist’s debut CD ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city.’ It was co-written with Tyler Williams, also known as T-Minus. It entered the Billboard Hot 100 upon its release though it failed to get into the top 10. It also got into the UK Singles Chart, marking Lamar’s first time to be there.
The lyrics are introspective of Lamar’s perception about filial and social alcoholism combined with peer pressure. The words tell a story about how drinking has become a problem in the singer’s family. In the second part, Lamar tries to converse with his subconscious state.
An extended version in the same album features an interlude and a short skit. Listeners will have the impression that he was drunk while recording the song. That is obviously part of its theme and mood. Needless to say, the track is a perfect background for friends who are on a drinking session. Be merry, have fun, and never seriously worry about life’s complications. Can life get any better than that?
