The numerous Justin Bieber songs have made him a household name. But who is he, anyway? Justin Drew Bieber was born in London, Ontario in Canada on March 1, 1994. He was raised single-handedly by his mother, Patricia ‘Pattie’ Mallete, who was never married to his father, Jeremy Bieber. The two now maintains a friendship aimed at providing support for their son personally and professionally.
Life was not that simple for the young mother and her child. Mallete released her memoirs in September 2012, where she revealed so many things about her life as a teenaged single mom. According to her revelations, many of the people around her tried to convince her to abort her baby, which would turn out to be Justin. Despite her young age and unstable status, she decided to keep her child and eventually obtained several low-paying office jobs to support Justin.
As a kid, Bieber kept to himself his musical aspirations. He explored and taught himself how to play the drums, piano, trumpet, and guitar. In 2007, when Justin was just 12 years old, he joined a local singing contest in Stratford where he bagged the second prize after doing a cover of Ne-Yo’s ‘So Sick.’ His mother posted the video of that competition performance on YouTube, where Scooter Braun, an ex-So So Def marketing executive, accidentally discovered it. By that time, Bieber had several popular videos posted on the site, where he covered various R&B songs.
Braun was instantly impressed, prompting him to trace Bieber’s location so he could convince him to record several demo tapes. Bieber and his mom flew to Atlanta, Georgia with Braun. After just a week, Usher signed Bieber to Raymond Braun Media Group and later helped him get a deal with L.A Reid, who signed Bieber to a recording contract with Island Records in 2008.
‘One Time’ was the first of many Justin Bieber songs, which was immediately released while he was still recording the other tracks for his debut CD. The song was a commercial success, paving the way for the equally successful release of his first extended play ‘My World’ in 2009.
In January 2010, his debut full-length album ‘My World 2.0’ was released. It was ushered by the global hit single ‘Baby’ that propelled his superstardom internationally. ‘U Smile’ and ‘Never Let You Go,’ also from that CD, were also warmly received in music charts worldwide. Not surprisingly, the album took the No.1 spot at the US Billboard 200. Justin Bieber became the youngest male recording act to rule the chart since 1963 when Stevie Wonder made history. Bieber was the second best paid celebrity under 30 in June 2011 after earning more than $53 million in just a year.
This was according to Forbes. He was the youngest and among the seven musicians on the same list. In November that year, he released his second CD ‘Under the Mistletoe,’ a Christmas album. His third studio album, called ‘Believe,’ was launched in June 2012. It marked the musical departure of Justin Bieber songs from being teen pop sensation into performances for young adults. Many critics noted that the album sported a more mature sound and lyrics for the 18-year old icon. The CD debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200, his fourth album to rule the charts.
