Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Featuring Kimbra Review

Talk about pop perfection to music critics and most of them would surely mention ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ by Gotye. The Belgian-Australian singer and songwriter has invited New Zealand singer and guitarist Kimbra to grace the recording of this song, which comes as the second single released from his third album ‘Making Mirrors.’

The ballad has a mid-tempo and indie pop elements. It has become so popular that it instantly rose as Gotye’s signature song. It has been a commercial success and has climbed various music charts around the world since its release. It was performed many times in popular TV shows like American Idol, The Voice, and Saturday Night Live.

Music critics think that the track is simply flawless. It is compelling and intriguing especially because of its minimalist opening. The lyrics are also effective. The song talks about a relationship that has turned sour. Unexpectedly, there is a female side of this story, which further made it more interesting.

No one can set aside the distinct influence of 1980s music in this classic. It can be considered as a dead ringer for all the hits from more popular recording artist Sting.

  1. This was not put together by hit-makers. It was put together by a guy writing music in a shed. The fact that it is the only #1 hit in the last decade to not be constructed by some overpaid producer backed by a huge record label in conjunction with a marketing team the size of a small country should be enough reason for any genuine music lover to appreciate this song and what it means for popular music.

  2. Love the song so true to life… The video is very interesting. So you build your life/ world with someone and then one day they remove themselves from it, without you realizing. Once picture perfect is no longer because we take different paths. In other words i am the only one in the painting. You are long gone … somebody i use to know.. cause u changed and maybe i did too.

Thats my take love the Xylophone ..

  3. this song leaves me breathless, i am never tired of listening… it makes earth a perfect place to be,it never grows old, love you goyte **********
