AWOLNATION – Sail Review
The song ‘Sail’ is the biggest and most commercially successful single released by electronic rock group Awolnation. It was taken from the band’s first album ‘Megalithic Symphony’ and its first EP ‘Back from Earth.’ Listeners easily identify the sample used from the 1977 hit song ‘Cold as Ice’ by Foreigner.
You may surely be familiar with its sound. This track was used as scoring for the video release of Jeb Corliss, the base jumper. You can’t possibly ignore that one as it features Corliss flying through the picturesque Swiss mountains. That same video significantly helped boost attention drawn by the song.
Aside from that, the song was also used as soundtrack of CBC’s Hockey Night and NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins. It was also featured in the BMW ad that appeared during the 2012 Summer Olympics and in specific episodes of TV shows ‘The Good Wife’ (CBS) and ‘Longmire’ (A&E). As if those are still not enough, it was also played in the motion picture ‘Playback.’
Needless to say, the track enjoyed critics’ admiration. It may not be the best song playing in our minds today, but it has the persuasion and appeal to draw attention and retention.
