Adele – One and Only Review
The ninth track off Adele’s second album ‘21’ was heavily promoted during the 11th season of the hit TV show American Idol. ‘One and Only’ was played in one of the season 2 episodes of Unforgettable. It was a collaboration with Greg Wells and Dan Wilson, who co-wrote the song with Adele.
In an interview, Adele revealed that prior to the night she wrote the song, she was watching the chick flick Never Been Kissed that starred Drew Barrymore. The movie inspired her.
It was evident on the track’s bridge, which can relate to how time slowed down when Barrymore and her screen partner kissed. That romantic scene was obviously the content of her thoughts when she wrote and recorded the song.
For a change to her usual mood, the song is impressively romantic. She describes it as a love song, which she dedicates to her mother and friends. The lyrics are just mesmerizingly mellow and enchanting. Of course, its highlight would be Adele’s powerful rendition. Her vocals in this track seem gospel-tinged. Accompanying her voice is an organ and a choir. It is actually a feel-good track, setting the balance of emotions in the album.
