Wale – My PYT Review

Alright ladies and gentlemen, the American rapper Wale, hailing from the D.C area has kept true to his worlds by releasing his newest single on the block – My PYT as he earlier disclosed on twitter. A unique Michael Jackson inspired, perky upbeat jam with a deep lyrical groove.

Until previously, the artist had been teasing about his upcoming new album and did not give any official release details. Similarly, Wale stated that he would release a single to mark the opener of his upcoming album.

Since then, keeping his words on mind the artist released My PYT on May 20, 2016. Something which he confirmed through his twitter, by releasing a line of his song on a post.

The track will be the lead single for his upcoming fifth studio titled Shine. – standing for “Still Here Ignoring Negative Energy.”

The single saw released on iTunes first and then later on became available on other media and relevant radio platforms. Written by Olubowale Akintimehin and Sam Sneak and produced by The Dope Boyz under Maybach Music Group and Atlantic Records.

My – PYT features sampling from Michael Jackson’s “Pretty Young Thing” and Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing”

So far the track has peaked at number 54 of Billboard Hot 100, whereas, is currently positioned at No.16 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

The single from Wale, shows a new perspective from the artist side, consisting of solid percussions over a bouncy atmosphere, in addition to having some boom bap styled tune. The Song is creative and inspires some captivating energy from the late king of Pop Michael Jackson.

Wale had a chance to meet the mother of the late pop icon – Ms. Katherine Jackson, and ever since had been mesmerized to honor her in some way. Wale explains “I wanted to pay homage to the legend that is Michael in some way, and the chorus popped into my head and just felt right with the music. It’s just one of those songs that’s been omnipresent in my life since I was a kid.”

Lyrics are honest and give a definite groove with a characterful chorus “Hold the set down. This one’s for you. Suppose to get the crown. Pretty young girl. I just wanna see you shine”

All in all, a good attempt to honor a late legend through a noble gesture is always a good thought. What Wale keeps in store for fans for his upcoming tracks for his album Shine is now the wait.

A music video was released on July 25, 2016 on YouTube.
